Puppy Training

A TRAINED PUPPY IS HAPPY PUPPY

A trained puppy will make a happy dog and an even happier owner. Luckily, Goldens are very easy to train using tried and true techniques. Remember consistency is key.

CRATE TRAINING

We recommend a kennel or small enclosure for your puppy at night and if you are leaving the puppy alone (no more than 3-4 hours at a time).  Puppies are active and need lots of attention and interaction. If left alone in your house, they could get into trouble by chewing on things they are not suppose to. Plus, puppies are den animals and enjoy a quiet, small place to rest and sleep.  You should immediately take your puppy outside to potty after they wake from a nap, as well as after eating.  We recommend this kennel to grow with your puppy.

12 EASY TRAINING TIPS

  1. Start training from day one.
  2. Keep an eye on your puppy at all times.
  3. Feed meals in the crate.
  4. Keep the crate close to your bed for the first few nights.
  5. Keep a schedule.
  6. Slowly expand your puppy's access to your house.
  7. Learn your puppy's potty signs - usually as soon as they wake and after their are finished eating.
  8. Never allow your puppy to play chew on your hands - only on chew toys.
  9. Never spank your puppy.
  10. Praise your puppy in a high pitched voice.
  11. Always walk your puppy at your left heel.
  12. Keep treats in a loud can that rattles that will help your puppy learn to come.
